Letters to Dawn

In my mind, I asked: “Are you happy now?”

Y. has left Estonia behind and now lives in Tokyo. Over the course of one year, Y. writes letters to her best friend Dawn whom she grew up with.
Y.’s letters vary from deliberately casual to chillingly introspective, each questioning the meaning of life and the worth of fulfilling one’s dreams.

Letters to Dawn was first published in 2013 in the literary magazine Regina as part of a short story contest. The jury selected eight stories for publication out of over 500 entries from both Estonia and Finland.
